What is NDA?
The National Defence Academy is the joint defence service training institute of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the three services i.e. the Indian Army, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force train together before they go on to respective service academy for further pre-commission training.
NDA is located in Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra. It is the first tri-service academy in the world.

CDS Exam
What is CDS?
The Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination is conducted twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the recruitment of candidates into the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy. The UPSC will conduct the CDS exam twice a year in the month of February and September.
The selection of the candidates will be based on the written examination followed by an interview for intelligence and personality test.
The shortlisted candidates will be placed at the respective academies based on the preference and merit.

CAPF Exam
What is CAPF?
The UPSC Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) refers to the body of seven security forces in India under the Ministry of Home Affairs authorization. This CAPF AC exam is conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). The seven security forces under CAPF are Assam Rifles (AR), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), National Security Guard (NSG), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Border Security Force (BSF).
Exam Pattern: There are 3 levels in the recruitment process, they are:
- Written Exam
- Medical Test
- Interview / Personality Test

AFCAT Exam
What is AFCAT?
The Air Force common admission test (AFCAT) is a defence exam conducted by the Indian Air force for the selection of Class-1 Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical). The AFCAT exam is held twice a year, in February and August/September. Its applications are available in June and December.
The Indian Air Force holds the AFCAT exam to recruit qualified candidates for:
- Short Service Commission
- Permanent Commission
Except for NDA and CDS candidates, all other recruitment in the Indian Air Force is done through the AFCAT exam.
